Why Is My GetYourGuide Bank Deposit Lower Than the Payment?

GetYourGuide says €2,780 was paid. Your bank received €2,694. Lovely. Somewhere on the journey, €86 has wandered off. Here’s how to work out whether bank fees, currency conversion or something else explains it.

OTA Ninja checking a GetYourGuide bank transfer difference
GetYourGuide payment€2,780
Bank received€2,694
Difference€86

First things first: this is a different kind of mismatch

You have checked the GetYourGuide payment confirmation. It says the right amount.

Excellent.

Then you open the bank account.

Less excellent.

GetYourGuide payment: €2,780
Bank deposit: €2,694

If those are the two numbers that disagree, the useful clue is this: the difference appears to have happened after the GetYourGuide payment stage.

That saves us from spending half the afternoon accusing innocent booking rows of crimes they did not commit.

Short version: if the invoice and GetYourGuide payment confirmation reconcile, but the bank receives less, start with the banking route, fees and currency. Do not start by tearing the invoice apart again.

Can bank fees reduce a GetYourGuide payout?

Yes. GetYourGuide's current supplier guidance specifically says that international transactions can involve charges that reduce the final amount received.

It lists possible costs including currency-conversion fees, receiving-bank charges, intermediary-bank fees and SWIFT or wire-transfer fees.

GetYourGuide also says it covers the fees involved in issuing the transaction, while processing and receiving fees can still fall on the supplier side.

Official guidance: GetYourGuide, Fees incurred during the payout process.

Which is banking's polite way of saying that your money can occasionally pass through several pairs of hands before arriving, and some of those hands have a tiny invoice attached.

The most useful question: where did the number change?

I keep coming back to this because it makes payout mysteries much less mysterious.

InvoiceWhat should be paid
Payment confirmationWhat GetYourGuide says it paid
BankWhat actually arrived

If the first two numbers agree and the third one does not, you have already narrowed the problem down beautifully.

Not beautifully in a “hooray, less money” sort of way.

Beautifully in a “we now know which cupboard to search” sort of way.

1. Receiving-bank charges

Your own bank may charge for receiving an international transfer.

Whether it does, and how much, depends on the bank, account and payment route. GetYourGuide says it cannot tell suppliers exactly what receiving-bank fees will be because those are set by the banks themselves.

If your payment confirmation says €2,780 and your bank statement shows €2,755, check the transaction details in your bank account before doing anything heroic.

You may find a fee listed separately.

And if you do, mystery over. Put the cape away.

2. Intermediary-bank fees

This one is slightly sneakier.

An international bank transfer does not always travel directly from the sending bank to your bank. It can pass through an intermediary bank along the way.

GetYourGuide says intermediary banks may deduct their own charges from the transfer, which means the amount reaching your bank can be lower than the amount originally sent.

The entertaining part is that you may never have knowingly chosen this intermediary bank.

It has simply joined the financial conga line.

If the shortfall is unexplained on your normal bank statement, ask your bank whether an intermediary or correspondent bank deducted charges.

3. SWIFT or wire-transfer fees

International transfers may use the SWIFT network or another wire-transfer route.

GetYourGuide lists SWIFT or wire-transfer fees as another possible cost during international payments.

This tends to matter more when the transfer is genuinely international rather than being paid through a local or SEPA route.

Again, the exact fee is a bank question, not something I would confidently divine from a spreadsheet while wearing a wizard hat.

4. Currency conversion

Currency can create a very convincing “missing money” problem even when the payment itself is perfectly fine.

Suppose the GetYourGuide payment confirmation is in euros, but your receiving account ultimately credits another currency.

The bank or financial institution may convert the money using its exchange rate and may also apply a conversion fee or spread.

So comparing:

€2,780 sent
£2,365 received

is not a simple subtraction problem.

You first need to know what exchange rate was used and whether a conversion charge was included.

GetYourGuide's supplier documentation explicitly lists currency conversion as one of the fees that can affect the final amount received.

Exchange rates also enjoy moving around when nobody invited them to.

Very independent little creatures.

5. Was it a local, SEPA or international bank transfer?

This is worth checking because not every GetYourGuide bank payment follows the same route.

GetYourGuide says supplier bank transfers are configured as local bank transfer, SEPA bank transfer or international bank transfer, depending on the supplier's location, bank country and currency.

It says the system automatically selects the most advantageous available option to reduce unnecessary fees.

Local transfers are designed to behave more like domestic payments, while international transfers can involve additional intermediary or recipient-bank charges.

Official guidance: GetYourGuide, Payment Types for Suppliers and Local Bank Transfer vs International Bank Transfer.

So if you are getting a recurring deduction every single payout, your payment route is absolutely worth understanding.

6. Make sure the transfer has actually finished arriving

A payment confirmation is very useful, but it does not mean your bank must show the money five minutes later.

GetYourGuide currently says that after payment is issued, it can take up to another 7 business days for the money to arrive in the supplier's bank account. The payment confirmation itself can take up to 3 business days to appear after payment is issued.

Official guidance: GetYourGuide, Navigating Invoice and Payment Confirmation in Supplier Portal.

If you are still inside that window, give the transfer time to finish.

If the full payment arrives tomorrow, congratulations. We have successfully solved the problem by waiting.

My least glamorous diagnostic technique.

Still annoyingly effective.

A simple example

Let's say your documents look like this:

Invoice: €2,780
GetYourGuide payment confirmation: €2,780
Bank deposit: €2,694
Difference: €86

The invoice and payment confirmation agree.

That means I would not start by blaming commission, cancellations or missing bookings.

I would start with:

  • Did the bank receive the transfer in the same currency?
  • Did the receiving bank charge a fee?
  • Was an intermediary bank involved?
  • Was there a SWIFT or wire fee?
  • Did currency conversion occur?
  • Does the bank transaction detail show the original sent amount and any charges?

That is a much shorter investigation than reopening the entire payout.

When it probably isn't a bank-fee problem

Now flip the example around:

Invoice: €3,280
GetYourGuide payment confirmation: €2,780
Bank deposit: €2,780

Here, the bank received exactly what GetYourGuide says it paid.

The €500 difference happened before the bank stage.

That means you should be looking at the invoice-to-payment side instead, including commission, cancellations, adjustments, multiple invoices or missing bookings.

Our invoice and payment mismatch guide is the better place to start for that.

If the money simply has not arrived at all, use the payment not received guide.

And if the whole payout just looks suspiciously small, the payout lower than expected guide walks through the complete chain.

Where OTA Ninja helps

This is one of those jobs where the phrase “bank amount doesn't match payment” sounds simple until you are juggling an invoice spreadsheet, a payment confirmation and a bank transaction while trying to remember whether €43.17 was a fee, a conversion difference or something else entirely.

That is partly why I built OTA Ninja.

If you have the GetYourGuide invoice and payment-confirmation files, you can also enter the amount that actually reached your bank.

OTA Ninja can then separate the stages and flag the unexplained bank difference for you.

Important: OTA Ninja can tell you that the payment confirmation and bank amount differ, and by how much. It cannot magically identify which bank took an unknown charge unless the bank information you have actually shows it. Sadly, the little ninja has not yet gained access to the international banking underworld.

Still got an unexplained difference?

Run the actual GetYourGuide payout files through OTA Ninja and see exactly where the numbers stop agreeing.

Should I contact my bank or GetYourGuide?

A handy rule of thumb:

If the payment confirmation and bank amount differ: start with your bank.

Ask them whether there were receiving fees, intermediary-bank deductions, SWIFT charges or currency conversion.

If the invoice and payment confirmation differ: start by reconciling the GetYourGuide documents.

If GetYourGuide says Paid but nothing arrives after the normal bank window: check your bank and then GetYourGuide Supplier Support with the payment confirmation reference.

The more specific you can be, the better.

“Payment confirmation GPS-XXXX shows €2,780. My bank received €2,694. Can you confirm whether €86 was deducted by a receiving or intermediary bank?”

That gives your bank something useful to investigate.

Much better than:

“Hello. Money gone weird. Please advise.”

Although spiritually, I understand the second one.

My simple bank-difference checklist

  1. Confirm the payment confirmation amount.
  2. Confirm the exact bank amount received.
  3. Make sure both amounts are being compared in the same currency.
  4. Check whether the payment is local, SEPA or international.
  5. Open the bank transaction details and look for receiving or wire fees.
  6. Ask the bank whether an intermediary bank deducted anything.
  7. If currency conversion occurred, check the applied exchange rate and conversion charge.
  8. If the payment is still inside GetYourGuide's normal arrival window, allow time for it to settle.
  9. If the bank amount still cannot be explained, record the exact difference.
  10. If the difference actually began between invoice and payment confirmation, move back to the GetYourGuide-side reconciliation.

Find the first point where the numbers change.

That is the trick.

Everything after that gets a lot less foggy.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my GetYourGuide bank deposit lower than the payment confirmation?

If the payment confirmation shows one amount but less reaches your bank, the difference may have happened during the banking stage. GetYourGuide lists possible causes including intermediary-bank fees, receiving-bank charges, SWIFT or wire-transfer fees and currency conversion.

Does GetYourGuide charge suppliers a bank transfer fee?

GetYourGuide says it covers fees related to issuing the transaction or fees charged by the sending bank. Processing, intermediary and receiving-bank charges can still apply depending on the payment route and banks involved.

Can an intermediary bank deduct money from my GetYourGuide payout?

Yes. GetYourGuide says international transfers may pass through intermediary banks and those banks can deduct charges before the payment reaches the receiving bank.

Can currency conversion make my GetYourGuide payout look short?

Yes. If currency is converted during the transfer or by your receiving bank, the exchange rate and conversion charges can make the final credited amount differ from the GetYourGuide payment-confirmation amount.

How long can a GetYourGuide bank transfer take to arrive?

GetYourGuide says that after payment is issued it can take up to another 7 business days for the payment to arrive in your bank account. The payment confirmation can take up to 3 business days to appear after issue.

Can OTA Ninja tell me exactly which bank charged a fee?

OTA Ninja can compare the GetYourGuide payment confirmation with your bank amount and show the size of the bank-stage difference. It cannot reliably identify which bank charged an unknown fee unless your bank information or documentation shows it.
